Antique Victorian brooch featuring pave set turquoise gemstones set in 9ct rose gold. The brooch secures with an open 'c' clasp.
In the mid-century the subject of gem-lore became very popular. For the Victorian's a turquoise gemstone was thought to preserve sight and protect from injury. Even today in the north-east, there is a proverb stating 'That a Turquoise given by a loving hand carries with it happiness and good fortune'.
